چکیده

With the growing demand of radio resources, maximizing spectrum efficiency becomes increasingly important. Traditional static spectrum allocation lacks effective mechanisms for sharing spectral resources. Through adaptive resource allocation, spectrum agility allows the radio devices to dynamically use the idle spectral band and is becoming increasingly attractive because it can provide a large number of resources for delay sensitive and high-bandwidth applications such as multimedia transmission. In this paper, we show how spectrum agility may be used to satisfy delay sensitive applications over wireless networks. Simulation results demonstrate that the performance of networks using spectrum agility presents significant improvements over existing networks. By utilizing a decentralized, non-cooperative channel searching and switching strategy, different users with various throughput requirements can share the available channel resources in an efficient way to satisfy their own packet loss and delay constraints.

Decentralized Transmission Strategy for Delay-sensitive Applications over Spectrum Agile Network

With the growing demand of radio resources, maximizing spectrum efficiency becomes increasingly important. Traditional static spectrum allocation lacks the mechanisms for sharing the spectral resources between different allocated bands. Hence, spectrum agility which allows the radio devices to dynamically use the idle spectral band is attracting more and more attention. In this paper, we show h...

Supporting Demanding Wireless Applications with Frequency-agile Radios

With the advent of new FCC policies on spectrum allocation for next generation wireless devices, we have a rare opportunity to redesign spectrum access protocols to support demanding, latency-sensitive applications such as high-def media streaming in home networks. Given their low tolerance for traffic delays and disruptions, these applications are ill-suited for traditional, contention-based C...

Spread spectrum-based coordination design for spectrum-agile wireless ad hoc networks

Cognitive radios (CRs) have been proposed to improve spectrum utilization by enabling opportunistic and dynamic spectrum access for unlicensed users. To enable efficient CR communications, a reliable control channel (CC) for exchanging control information is needed. In this paper, a direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS)-based underlay CC design for distributed coordination in CR networks (CRNs...

Decentralized Adaptive Control of Large-Scale Non-affine Nonlinear Time-Delay Systems Using Neural Networks

In this paper, a decentralized adaptive neural controller is proposed for a class of large-scale nonlinear systems with unknown nonlinear, non-affine subsystems and unknown nonlinear time-delay interconnections. The stability of the closed loop system is guaranteed through Lyapunov-Krasovskii stability analysis. Simulation results are provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed approache...

Wireless Multimedia Cognitive Radio Networks: A Comprehensive Survey

Time critical and delay sensitive multimedia applications require more spectrum and transmission resources. With the provision of cognitive radios (CRs), the underutilized spectrum resources can be exploited to gain more bandwidth for the bandwidth hungry applications (multimedia applications). Cognitive radio networks (CRNs) also have the flexibility to adjust their transmission parameters acc...
